News Release - Windsor NS Team Wins 52nd Annual Monctonian

A recent Nova Scotia Brier representative, Mark Kehoe led his undefeated team of third Richard Barker, second Kevin Lonergan and lead Andrew McManus to a 5-2 win over Rod Aube of Fredericton on the weekend to capture the City of Moncton trophy, presented by Councillor Merrill Henderson, in the 52nd Annual Monctonian Curling Bonspiel.


Team Aube consisted of Jake Healy at third, Bob Brannen second and Gord Tuttle at lead. It was the second runner-up finish for the Aube team in three years.


Thirty eight teams from Eastern Canada and the United States participated in the 2011 event hosted by the three local Moncton curling clubs. The runner-up Little Monctonian section was won by a Halifax rink skipped by John Brodie who recorded a 5-3 victory over Bob Dougherty of St. Stephen.


Other sectional winners were Les Mott of Saint John 8-6 over Garth Christie Fredericton , Bill Brownrigg of Heather Curling Club 5-4 over Dale Ross of Harriston CC in Ontario, Billy Justason St Stephan over Les Harrison Beaver by a count of 7-5, Don Doherty of Nashwaak 6-4 over Dodie Dickenson of Beaver and Jim Henderson of Beaver with a 6-4 victory over Gerry McCarty from New York.


It was the second time that the Oldtimer trophy was shared between two people, when it was announced that 45 year committee member Bob Arsenault of Curling Beausejour and 37 year participant Harris Dunn of Dartmouth were named co-recipients. The Raymond Smith/Wally Hastings Memorial Bonspieler award was won this year by Dale Ross of Ontario playing in his 29th event..
